Rumor has it #Microsoft is looking to purchase #Netflix. I prefer Microsoft over #Apple in this case, but I'd much prefer neither. Thoughts?

@mike The whole streaming market is a clusterfutch at this point, both companies will try to maximize profit as usual. I don't see how one could be better than the other.

@mike that’s gonna be some acquisition. Could be either of those. MS didn’t have a stake in the streaming space and Apple TV+ is struggling to compete.I doing care either way as long as they don’t hurt the platform.

@kev @mike Yes, but they should not be bought by other Big Techs like Microsoft. They are good at it is now. If Microsoft ill buy Netflix, they will add even more trackers to the service. Sure, you can block these trackers with for an example Pi-Hole, but still...

@mike I can't see this happening. Netflix is not that bad off. What Netflix is going through is expected. The market is saturated, yet still maturing.

@mike@fosstodon.org it makes no difference to me. I haven’t used Netflix in years and don’t ever plan to again.But I’m that way with basically every streaming service. I’d rather buy media and store it in a Plex library.

@mike I think that would be a bad move as Netflix is somehow drowning in profit loss. The crack down on password sharing was the last straw for a lot of people.

@mike I think higher of Microsoft than Netflix. But them purchasing it doesn't mean Netflix way of business goes away. Will just have to see. Both are essentially dead to me anyways so I dont really care all that much.

@mike Lenovo is disabling booting from anything that is not Windows (after Microsoft asked) and Netflix might stop working on Linux (some other streaming services aren't supporting it and Netflix also didn't in the beginning so guess it's not too difficult to cut Linux-users off). Sounds great😐️
