Assuming it's not something simpler like being molested, it reads perhaps like their mother's death left the girl without a female role model and in her grief, she began identifying with the males in her family. Not that she should commit to any kind of transition so young (or ever) in the first place, but "socially transitioning" before physically doing so also is going to lead to a lot of these kinds of situations. I hate trannies and all that, but I firmly believe the prognosis for acceptance generally improves the better one can pass, which few can, playing into all the suicides. You might as well just continue self-identifying as your birth sex until such an age where you're going to commit fully (even if I'd rather they don't troon out at all).

@fluffy She wanted one day, a particularly special day, where she could have her whole family together and act normal for a couple hours without any of her brother’s family’s usual ideology. He was a dedicated ideologue who was not willing to set aside his ideology for even a couple of hours. Neither of them was willing to back down on their positions to avoid conflict. I picked third option because I don’t think asshole is the term I’d use, he’s either a monster who groomed his daughter or (seems more likely) a negligent coward who let his daughter get groomed and decided to embrace it, always siding with the ideology of power over even his family to avoid personal responsibility for or even acknowledgment of his daughters tragic fate. Just calling him an asshole is more than an understatement it’s totally missing the mark.
