@tlapka@kawen.space Even YouTube has this problem at times ;)Anyway, to trim a video, in theory this can be done mostly without reencoding (except at beginning and end). Not aware of any easy tools to do that though.

@tlapka ok, imagine that kdenlive does render your video picture by picture and makes a new video out of it. By doing so it does strongly try to get the best Quality, therefore your video is big again. This is just a guess but it will be something like this...Ideally, after you are satisfied with the editing, you convert it to a codec that produces much smaller video files and is supported everywhere, e.g. h264 inside a mp4.

@tlapka @Jain trim it in losslesscut (no re-encode)> why bigger videoit's basically opening a jpeg and then re-saving it after turning compression downlonger:because the compressor looks at the full decoded frame as though it had never been compressed at all. and you have the bit rate for the project set higher than the video you took the footage from. so it's seeing more allowed space to store images and opting to store them less compressed because its allowed to. if you weren't working with precompressed artifacts this would preserve the fidelity of the image.basically you set a bit rate and video encoders know that they only get so much bytes per frame and they use this to adjust the aggressiveness of compression they have access to. if they have infinite bitrate they would just never compress, because their budget allows every frame to be as-is, which would be perfect visual fidelity. it's also why "very compressed" videos look bad. if they are told to make it fit in 1mb/minute and given some unreasonable input like 4k video of constant motion, they have to crush the quality on everything to hell to meet that quota.they can exploit some tolerances here and there. a couple of easy frames results in extra space to use up for more important ones later. this is where two-pass comes in. two pass encoding basically does the compute steps twice so it can figure out which parts of the video it can rob to make up space for harder parts.
