@crunklord420 @josh they didnt just shut them down they made laws preventing that treatment any longer. they are still making laws to deal with the fallout of that. look at the LGBT and trans communities if you need an example

@crunklord420 @josh This. Institutions got a bad rap for a few questionable practices, but when they all shut down a lot of mentally ill people just wound up homeless. Living on the street and screaming at people on the bus/subway.

@crunklord420 @josh And just becuase I feel like ranting about this:I actually used to work at a pharmacy, and it's difficult to even get upper-middle class people to be drug-compliant. You'd have mother-fuckers trying to get their atorvastatin filled a month after the expiration date, so you know they weren't taking it like they were supposed to. And that might be okay for cholesterol meds, but the thing about a lot of anti-psychotics is that they MUST be taken on a regular basis for them to work. If normal people with steady incomes have problems taking meds like they're supposed to then there's a ZERO chance in hell that mentality unstable homeless people will. So even if you give them the meds for free they aren't going to take them like they're supposed to and so it's just wasted money. These people need to be supervised. I'm generally against goverment subsidized healthcare, but I'd be okay with some of my taxes being used to prevent crazy homeless people from interacting with the public so I can ride a train without worrying about getting pissed on or screamed at.
