@Natsura Theodore Roosevelt's fault (attempting to replace cane sugar to reduce dependence on Spanish colonial possessions), made worse by FDR's various farm bills (heavily subsidizing corn, among other foods, and top-down federal control over farming). Long story, but everything has corn syrup in it, everything. The FDA doesn't even require labels to include it as an additive for a large number of foods. If you want juice that doesn't have corn syrup in it, for example, you have to either squeeze it yourself, or find a bottle that says "No sugar added" and some grocery stores don't even carry that, so juice is too sweet for most people, so people don't drink juice. Meats and cheeses have corn syrup. Bread has corn syrup. You go into the kitchen and try to throw out everything that doesn't have corn syrup added to it, and you get an empty pantry, an empty refrigerator.

@fluffy @Natsura If the package says "fresh beef" then probably all that has happened is some anti-oxidation treatment (they blast it with carbon monoxide; doesn't alter the meat, just stops the surface from oxidizing, they can use dye, FDA regulations are byzantine), but anything processed (sausages, ham, bacon), anything prepared at a restaurant, it's all over.

@whiteline @Natsura @jessica @zipppipp our medicine has kinda become a huge joke of just sorting things in to symptom piles aggregated by which drugs to sell to palliate the symptoms and basically zero care is given in to why everyone is chemically shackled in the first place.if you go back and read very early medicine (chinese medicine, homeopaths, ..) there is a lot of emphasis on having to pin down a lot of bizzare details. most of the stuff about "chi" is literally blood disorders, because weak blood causes a cascade of degenerative compounding effects, which we have since learned to be true (ex. hyperglycemia causes slower healing and is generally bad for all the organs--bad blood ('chi') makes bad sleep which in turn means protective sheathes don't regenerate which in turn means they take more damage etc etc.)anyway i read about the chinese medicine for insomnia and it came back with 5 completely separate programs because you have to figure out the exact nature of why the blood is bad and target those. which means things like finding out if you have a genetic allergy to a particular food you are eating.when you talk to a doctor, their only answer is dumb shit like "buy metformin."
