It would improve the security of #Bitcoin nodes if they automatically tracked BCH and other SHA256d PoW systems (not necessarily blockchains). Then the node could have a true sense of the full global mining hashrate (which could be switched to an attack on Bitcoin at any time, even if not currently mining Bitcoin), and adjust its security predictions appropriately.

@lukedashjr What's the current ratio of bitcoin fork mining hash rate to bitcoin's?

@lukedashjr difficulty is part of consensus. I can’t see any way to reach consensus on total available hash power.

@raucao I assume no alerts would be triggered right now.

@jasonkeyes You wouldn't use it for difficulty

@lukedashjr how would the node monitor the other systems reliably?

@duringo it wouldn't need to be reliable

@lukedashjr @jasonkeyes my first thought was difficulty too, how would this work?

@lukedashjr Could that represent some possible gaming if the data isn't reliable? Say they game it to not show all the mining going on on BCH. Hidden hashpower... maybe that's not possible I have no idea.

@duringo it only takes one person to inject the hashes. and truly hidden hashing is exactly what it would detect

@gchaincl @jasonkeyes If there was evidence there might be an attack underway, you would trust confirmations less until the situation resolved.
