You know what, when I learned about the names of some common emojis I got very confused & surprised!πŸ˜‚ - this emoji is often used by me and many others to show a laughing face, but apparently its called "face with tears of joy" !πŸ˜‹ - I have sometimes used this emoji to show a silly face, but its actually called "face savoring food".I wonder if this confuses people using screen readers, or do they understand these differences ?Full emoji list with names and all - https://unicode.org/emoji/charts/full-emoji-list.html

@devinprater That's what I thought. Now I gotta learn to use the more appropriate emoji, rather than going with like meme-culture meanings my friends would also use. Some of the emoji also don't look exactly what we'd want to express, so we end up using emoji that would be technically wrong. It's also a bit worse with other emoji fonts whose own art style can make people use or not use some emoji. Most of the emoji are pretty straightforward across fonts, but some of them look not as we'd expect or think.

@Hawlucha Oh, I didn't know that. Wow. Yeah I guess that's the problem with using characters to try to show the extensive set of emotions and such.

@devinpraterYou use a screen reader right? Have those emojis ever confused you? Especially that laughing emoji is very popular, it looks more like "tears from laughing too hard" than "tears of joy". So my question is, before reading my post did you knew that people meant laughing when they used that emoji? And @Hawlucha is right, different programs show these emojis in a different way, in my browser it looks flat, in my phone it has a little 3D effect. I wish these things were more consistent.

@futureisfoss @Hawlucha Okay so when I see the "tears of joy" one, I ... kinda just think people are extra happy or something. I honestly don't find any reason to use it in its original meaning.

@devinprater@HawluchaThat's interesting because people usually use it to mean laughter, which is kinda similar to being happy so I understand why you thought like that.

@kartoffelcheetahIts a very common emoji actually, I use it a lot too. I was very surprised to find that its actually trying to depict "tears of joy" and not "tears of laughter". I think this is an issue with unicode, they should've made these more clear. And when someone realizes that this emoji is commonly used to show laughter, then that clears the misunderstanding. I made this post to make more people aware of this since I didn't see anyone else talking about it.@devinprater @Hawlucha
