       Can anyone enlighten me as to why everyone sends their five year old kids to rot in the torture chamber known as school for the rest of their childhood?This makes me so angry, but surely there is a great reason hidden somewhere.

       @digdeeper most people complete school better adjusted than people of the same age who never studied plus you need to be capable of fulfilling one of the several mundane career paths available once being a “twitch streamer” or “YouTuber” don’t work out for you.

       @sheetposter @digdeeper There are plenty of useful, career opportunistic skills that can be learned on your own like programming, cooking, working with cars, music. I bet there will be more opportunities when stuff like 3D-printing becomes mainstream. There's really no reason to have kids locked in a building for 8 hours every weekday to "learn" anymore.

       @xianc78 @digdeeper School needs to be reformed, not discarded. Most people left to their own devices will have difficulty learning math or proper whatever-is-the-language-you-speak-locally. Drop school and you'll end up with a bunch of people who speak literal gibberish and struggle with the most basic math-related tasks.If your answer to that is "replace with career training" then that's still school, just reformed.And what the fuck do you think people are going to do with 3D printing? Slave labor is cheaper and that's why all your stuff is made in China. Design a cool 3D thing you can monetize by selling copies of? Give it a week and China is selling it cheaper and eating your business.

       @digdeeper Mandated here in America, I've come to believe. Possible to homeschool, but the time necessary for this is usually eaten by work, esp. with both parent's labor needed in order to afford themselves & the kid.
