@gme The creation and release of their copilot thing broke lots of licensing rules and they're shrugging off the issue instead of dealing with it in an honest way. It seems they're finally alienating the true FOSSers who could turn a blind eye to leftist politicization but won't stand for nonfree software and legal chicanery from Microsoft.

@gme the rumor I heard is that github is doing nothing to encourage popular repos to *actually follow and acknowledge* foss licenses they are underrepo owners can do things explicitly made illegal by the licenses they agreed too and github is complicit with pretending it isn't happening and is not a problem until somebody actually forces their hand in court

@gmeOne can be the biggest contributor to anything and also one of the most harmful element at once. That's pretty much what the "embrace extend extinguish" stands for.Also Github is a centralised system, which somehow is the antithesis of git as decentralised VCS.@Aetous

@gmeI don't know, how you got to this, that wasn't my intention. What MS does with Github has it's upsides. A centralised plattform is quite handy, the established workflow is understood globally which is also great. On the other hand, the ecosystem is ruled by MS and not the community, decentralisation was lost and if one uses the github cli tool git itself becomes invisible. That's Microsofts current doing, not to speak of their Ai tooling and/or their intentions@Aetous

@gme @codeberg You can not switch from #github , can you? It's a common reason to not #migrate to #FLOSS alternatives: "all customers use MS Word", etc.FLOSS systems usually have migration paths, the opposite than closed software / services

My software is not locked-in to GitHub. I can retrieve it and download it (in fact I have offline backups) any time I desire.Still don't understand how me having an account on GitHub means my software doesn't somehow belong to me.
