       @fluffy Yep. The early internet was a veritable heavenly commons, of the sort that human beings rarely get. Barriers to entry were such that only persistent, intelligent, curious, and thick-skinned people were involved. (Ofc this meant that about 80% were white men, but let's pass over that for now).The smart phone and social media destroyed that -- in about ten years, like the poast said.I sometimes wonder what might have been possible if those two developments had occurred even 15 or 20 years later than they did.
