Slash the tires of some working single-mother."I'm saving the planet!"I have nothing but contempt for those who use their "high-minded" ideals to strike at their fellow citizens. It's also the broken window fallacy applied to climate action, now more resources will be used to repair things that didn't need to be broken.

@kenos It's definitely illegal, but most (effective) protest action is illegal, so that's kind of beside the point. The most pertinent questions in my mind are a) is it ethical? b) is it effective?@gabriel

@gabriel This post is misleading. According to the text in the picture, the tires weren't slashed, just deflated, so they don't need repairing, just pumping up. What evidence do you have that "working single mother" describes the owner of the SUV they targeted? Framing it this way seems like an obvious appeal to emotion - since I'm guessing you know characterizing the owner as a "single white man" wouldn't elicit much sympathy for him and his planet-cooker.@kenos

@strypey What evidence do you have that "working single mother" describes the owner of the SUV they targeted? This behavior isn't going to spare people for sympathy, the fact that it's NOT targeted essentially means the vulnerable will suffer the most.you know characterizing the owner as a "single white man" wouldn't elicit much sympathy for him and his planet-cooker.Yep, funny how that is.This post is misleading. According to the text in the picture, the tires weren't slashed, just deflatedThis a euphemism at best. It's the equivalent of publishing website saying you want to invite politicians to your minecraft server.

@gabriel > the fact that it's NOT targeted essentially means the vulnerable will suffer the most. This describes climate change pretty well. Flat tires are a minor nuisance by comparison.> This a euphemism at best. This is a conclusion you're jumping too. Evidence that the deflating is done by slashing, rather than just opening the valve?

@gabriel This makes these people not much better than the radical right-wing insurrectionists they’d otherwise call out. So disappointing.

@strypeyIf this were a genuine protest movement we would be more supportive. It has hallmarks of being a state-supported operation, assigning *blame* on #protesters while actually being govt-supported.If site was only available over Tor rather than Litespeed CDN which serves govt, then that would come across as more grassroots/equitable.This movement upholds corporate structures over ppl. Yes many ppl are to blame, but priorities? How bout #airTravel. 1% use 50% of airTravel.@gabriel

@gabriel Ha, nice.I saw both the call for action and the result here on the Fediverse :fediverse: .I think they said to be aware of single mothers and people with disabilities or pretty much anyone who needed a big ride.Still, a lot of single mothers, specially in every non-rich country, don't drive an SUV to work or to take their children to school. Is it really a necessity?

@gabriel Ugh, another fucking liberal I've got to school. Alright, first off, nobody said anything about slashing tires. One simply deflates the tire and leaves the message. Aggravating, yes. Permanent damage, no. Second, your Broken Window Fallacy assumes that one's goal is to rebuild and do things that benefit society. Wrong again, fuck society and it's hierarchies
