Man, fuck proprietary software. My work computer gets (no joke!) from 100 to 0% battery in a little over 2 hours on Windows when I have a MS Teams conference. Depending on what kind of meeting (or back-to-back meetings) I have on the day, this scenario can happen frequently.Yesterday I unlocked the BIOS and booted #AlpineLinux on it via a pendrive.5, almost 6 hours of work including installing things and watching videos and it's still standing.#FreeSoftware is just better!

@kzimmermann I noticed that closing MS Teams at the end of a working day will release more than 4 GB of memory on my M1 Mac. Luckily I got the spec’ed out version from my employer, so it doesn’t hurt much over the day… but man 4 GB for a chat tool?!?

@appelgriebsch the other day I went over 9 GB RAM after I loaded the webapps for Outlook and MS Teams in my personal Linux laptop. How can CIOs justify this... upgrading machines can't be free of cost

@kzimmermann I find Teams gets through a fair amount of battery power on my Android tablet, even when I'm not using it at all.

@markusl all the more infuriating! It's like dude, what the hell are you doing in the background all shady like that - and consuming *my* battery while this is going on??To call this sort of program Spyware is not the least bending over the truth.

@fedops nice! Must feel nice to have a prospect in which you can work completely with whatever Operating System you want. I wonder if I'll ever get to work in such freedom.

@zem I say it must take an incredibly progressive organization to actually enable BBB for everyone's conferencing needs. But I'd love to. Previous closest thing I've tried was Jitsi with my family, and once with #zipcall before they went proprietary.

@kzimmermann in this case it's a choice (ha!) only between Debian and that ms thing. Though it seems they're getting fed up with the apt antics and are considering switching their products over to a Redhat-based system. We'll see I guess. 😁 I can certainly live with Debian as well.
