@stuxI've seen this before. It's not a timelapse, it's a digital cel animation, using Cassini imagery. If it were a timelapse, you'd be able to see some storm rotation.

@stuxThere's also the point that Cassini would basically have been required to film a movie to get the images, that it's a (fast) moving platform, so perspective would change, etc. Also, at one point, I tracked it down and read the original artist's description.

@stux I will never get over the fact that Jupiter exists and has tons of other spheres circling it -- and that we can just see their light with a little bit of magnification. And then this stuff. 🤯

@stux Now imagine those 2 moons 5 times bigger. Now you can imagine 2 Earths orbiting Jupiter and even those Earths are still godawfully tiny. ;)

@stux @tsturm The #Cassini mission was an amazing achievement for humanity. I want to visit the JPL as soon as they reopen to the public. I have a friend who worked there and knows the designers of various probes and rovers. They're my personal heroes 🥰

@stux This Snopes article interview the animation's creator."The time-lapse video was created by lining up still photographs shot over a number of hours in January 2001 by the Cassini spacecraft. According to its creator, slight alterations were made so that the presentation of the video looked "prettier than it was correct.""https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/europa-io-jupiter-video/
