My arms are covered in tattoos.Today is going to be my first day wearing short sleeves to my new job. They're overwhelmingly millennial but still corporate, so I wonder if this is going to have any consequences.

@Gina I bet they require you to remove them!But good luck, tattoos, on women, still a thing. I heard from my partner that she got questioned about a particular tattoo for like a half an hour. When she finally told the guy (of course) that it was a full visual representation of the clitoris in a field of wild flowers, that got him to shut up.

@Gina good luck. I assume you made them aware.My wife made her employer aware, and also has blue hair usually but at the time it was having a break from colour so maybe they didn't think she was serious.Come summer they brought out policy on tattoos. She doesn't give a shit, they need her more than she needs them. The one on her leg is a girl with a book FFS, hardly offensive.

@Gina if they have no explicit documented policy on this and consistently applied, 'consequences' would be in breach of 'goed werkgeverschap' + outside of the legal 'instructierecht' an employer has wrt the appearance of employees (IANAL) In general visible tattoos are only potentially an issue if wearing a uniform or in customer facing roles where it may insult customers. Still they need to have a policy, and even then jurisprudence in NL regularly sides w employees. Basic rights after all.

@Gina Even to me, a person living in gulag where they can put you to jail for some weird shit they call "homosexual propaganda" (🤦), it seems weird that tattoos could still be a problem in the workplace. OMG what is wrong with this world?I wish you luck and hope that it's won't be a problem for you.

@Gina i have a full sleeve and ink on my other arm. I work for an American bank, so don’t get more corporate. Never had any issues and some of our very senior leaders are inked.I know what you mean though. I always second guess the first time too.

@kev @Gina I work for a pharmaceutical, so it's pretty corporate too. I'm ink free, but I work with a woman who has considerable amounts of it. I saw her yesterday in short shorts and a v-neck muscle shirt top. She doesn't have anything on her neck or face, but every other visible surface other than her hands are covered.

@Gina I see more and more often colleague with shorts at work. Few years ago it never exists at least long pants and shirt. No Tshirt either but today going in Tshirt at work is ok.
