Has somebody tried Speek!? Any issue, suggestion or critique? Decentralized, anonymous and encrypted messaging system with apps for all big platforms (including Windows, MacOs, Linux and Android).https://speek.network

@hermes@indieweb.social looks interesting, but I notice they only mention @session@mastodon.social briefly in their FAQ, rather than a direct comparison (I imagine they didn't want to risk looking lacking compared to another product). At the moment, Session is more feature rich, but if Speek can implement p2p voice/video, and group voice, it would jump ahead quite dramatically. The latency of Tor would be prohibitively difficult to overcome. But... If they do manage to figure it out, I would consider moving. 🙂👍

@hermes@indieweb.social @session@mastodon.social further - I'd suggest still running a direct comparison to Session, even if Speek is lacking in some areas, just the fact they'd be willing to put themselves up against greater competition openly, tells me that they're not trying to hide anything, and that they have greater goals for their product. 😁

@hermes Being fully open source is a good position. I hope they're not relying on Tor to provide any service-breaking guarantees of privacy though.Odd that they're running their community on Telegram though.A quick read of their service tends to suggest that messages can't queue anywhere; both clients need to be online simultaneously in order to work. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but does hamper usability.I didn't see anything around user discovery either, so somehow you have to communicate your ID out-of-band. Not sure if that's a big problem or not.Getting your app into the various OS stores is good for end-users, although I'm disappointed it doesn't seem to be in f-droid.

@yojimbo@hackers.town @hermes@indieweb.social right. Good points. Client sender side queues are OK, but not a great solution.I'm glad to see no trackers in the Android version though. 😁
