South Dakota GOPers tried to raise the threshold for ballot initiatives because they are that afraid of a Medicaid expansion campaign this November. The measure failed 2:1.Red states want good social programs. They vote for them in referendums. Yet when it comes to choosing politicians, a lot of them often just can't help themselves and end up voting against their own interests. Chance to correct this coming soon.It might not be a bad idea to add Medicaid expansion to Democratic party messaging, particularly in states where the voters want it, but the GOP state administration tries to overrule them. #MedicaidExpansion #ElectDemocratsSouth Dakotans Refuse to Weaken Ballot Initiatives, Keeping Hopes Alive for Medicaid Expansion - https://boltsmag.org/south-dakota-amendment-c-result-medicaid/

@TonyStark It's good news when an authoritarian power grab is thwarted. I hope voters there and everywhere remember in November.

@TonyStark People in red states aren't dumb. Their elected officials underestimate them.A lot of people are single-issue voters on guns or abortion, but when you put something like Medicaid on the ballot, they know they want health care.I guess it's a good thing it's not legal to write a ballot question that asks do you want health care or guns. Choose only one.
