       @alteredspecifis @esmail Apple litterally pushed out an update to Big Sur that added explicit support and documentation for running a custom kernel, Apple isn't going to talk about it but they don't care enough to stop it and I guess there are some engineers who want to make some cool stuff

       @BrodieOnLinux "Fully Open Source" - are you sure?I haven't really looked into this one, but doesn't the M1's GPU run a bunch of proprietary firmware (loaded up by the bootloader so you don't have to bother at least but still), so therefore making all of the driver not "open source"?

       @BrodieOnLinuxHonestly it would be easier to make a vulkan driver than an opengl driver.When you say "and maybe even a vulkan driver" after mentioning opengl. That makes no sense. Unless there are developers really committed to opengl first. But you can get opengl for free if you create a vulkan driver first.Opengl is like a giant state machine whereas vulkan just passes along commands.

       @BrodieOnLinuxAfter watching the first 4 hours of a 10 hour stream. I'm convinced it'll be many years before anything comes from this.looking in the wrong parts of mesa to do anything. This is brute forcing your way to a driver.I think their goal is to make a mesa backend driver. kernel driver. not a opengl or vulkan driver, which the existing mesa user space driver will handle.
