Is our solar system sacred?That is, would any plan that destroyed it be wrong, even if it gave huge upsides to everyone and we had a new place to live?

@urusan I'd be dang skeptical of any plan that involved destroying our solar system,like are we already established on another planet when this plan is happening? Or have we found a way to make a fully self sustainable colonist ship?

@urusan I don't think anything is sacred, but it's hard to imagine what benefit we could get that would outweigh the costs of evacuating the planet.

@preflex Well, the solar system could be converted into a massive spaceship/space station. The dismantled sun would provide fusion fuel for far longer than its natural lifespan, since it wouldn't be wasting vast quantities of energy into space. As for the ship itself, the resulting megastructure(s) would be planetary in scale and could be very comfortable for human habitation, while being far bigger than just the natural planets.

@preflex Also, the destruction doesn't have to be total for it to be a problem if it is sacred.It's very easy to imagine our species colonizing the solar system in the near future, and in the process we'll despoil the natural beauty of the other planets, which up until now have been spared from human development.

@urusan well, depends on what happens to any biospheres in it. Dead rocks and balls of gas can be used however we want, regardless of size, but we ought to be damn sure living things are properly accomodated, and not just us, if we're to sterilize any such big rock.
