Well, it's hard to fault the first screenshot's attitude since a lot of fun online comes from slugging it out over disagreements. I don't remember the exact details of what you defederated him for so I can't comment much there, but on the whole a lot of people take action over basically just having their feelings hurt which is a kind of fragility I dislike.The anti-janny stuff is funny and not particularly threatening. I don't think it's a good case for excluding someone on its own. It's the God-given right of normal users to hate jannies imo. It's a cross I have chosen to bear, as have many of you.

Because the actual target demographic (Mastodon trannies, etc.--people who will never keep an open discourse with us anyways) doesn't deserve the courtesy of not being dunked on and it brings joy to our people to have it. Well, I know he invited the block upon himself through his behavior. Whether he wants truly to remain blocked is I think genuinely questionable. I think what he wants is to be both unblocked and for nobody to have the inclination to block him no matter how much he bothers them. @ChristiJunior Can you see the main page of FSE? Can you see the media if you use your phone?Might be your VPN if you are using one. A lot of free VPN IPs get blocked here because people use them to try to brute-force ssh. You could try using Tor. I don't know about other browsers, but Firefox at least allows you to specify proxy settings per-host, so you can set it to only use Tor for FSE if you don't want to use Tor for everything. (Though it's much faster nowadays; I use it all the time now.)

Man, I really don't think that's my intended brand. For instance, the "drama" today (if you can even call it that) was not started by me. Apropos of nothing, P blocked someone, took up his crusade against our bot again, and naturally those become hellthreads where everyone hops in for their pound of flesh. This is how basically every negative interaction I've been involved in has played out. I didn't start the shit the Poast either, but I was the wronged party in all of that, so I get to keep it up until it's made right or I get bored. Now, I'm not denying that I can enjoy drama. I can, that's why I can't really be threatened and don't relent if people keep going. But overall actually my desire is for people to just take things more lightly and to create new connections. I suppose it's impossible to be any kind of presence without also having those who dislike you, though.

I think the problem first began shortly after the Capitol protests, when FSE was down for a while, and once it came back I could no longer open it, then I was actually able to access the site for months, and then it became inaccessible for me again and has been so ever since. Must have been like a year ago at this point.I don't own a personal smartphone and don't use my work smartphone for private browsing at all (especially of spicy sites). Don't use Tor much either, Brave is my default browser.

I don't subscribe to the gay part of the fediverse, so I don't have to see all of that.But every once in a while, I see a big thread about how such-and-such admin really hates such-and-such admin from another instance, and I really don't understand it. Aside from blocking outright illegal content, can't users block for themselves if they don't like someone?It feels like a bunch of fiefdoms in feudal Europe, which is just silly. Do "the good guys" really have such a hard time uniting that we fragment and block over minor differences? Or am I missing something else about these instance wars that's hugely important?

I wouldn't have tolerated people posting someone's kid(s) the same way I tolerated them posting someone's KIKE WIFE (even if both were merely google results), it's true. But Eris isn't one of my own, and he didn't cross such a great moral boundary in my mind that I should have to make it my own problem. On the flipside, sure I agree many fedi personalities start needless drama over not liking cunny. Some might be disingenuous about it, some might truly believe it's a moral hazard. Either way, I'm fine with people who post it, even though it's not a defining quality of our own instance. So that's one category where I can't said to really be "supporting" Eris.Keep in mind in other situations I've butted heads with him too. These things are not black and white.

@victor @p I take a position similar to what you suggest. I generally don't instance or account block at the instance level. I leave that to users. I say generally because I have blocked a handful of "MAP" instances simply due to the fact that I don't have a whole lot of time to police content coming across my server, and I really don't want to have to do that. I also don't want to be involved in legal process where I can't just give the whoever is subpoening the information the finger, and I'm an expert at giving the finger via legal process, and I also know how much work complying can be. I don't even want to take the time to quash if I can avoid it (in California, you can ignore a subpoena issued under state law that you believe is illegal and fight it at contempt at your own risk. Federal, you have to quash.)

Well, maybe I sling shit back more than s8n, or maybe our users are just getting normal-blocked by P frequently so he's become aware of ours more often. Who knows.I could also just blacklist whole instances if nothing else works well enough. FSE blocks aren't really even the intended demo. It's usually unheard of Mastotranny instances that have made it fun.

On your second segment, I do agree that he could literally just remote deactivate bot accounts and it would solve it for his instance forever. He won't because he sees this as a matter of principle, and also that maybe down the line some other instance could have another bot that he again has to put 3 seconds into resolving forever.On the third, the funny thing is both times we've had a hellthread over the bot, he's the first one in there responding to the ping and tagging me to try and spook me or whatever. If he didn't like getting hellthread notifs from it, probably just not posting in the thread to begin with would make most pass over it. Though I'll say regarding my tech competence, it isn't that high. As seen here, it is very much about ego and stubbornness for these types.
