       im having a momenti am missing the "lan parties" we had during high schoolwhich were really like, we all bring our computers but just browse 4chan and watch funny flash anims until everyone crashes in front of the xbox running xbmc with a bunch of movies fresh from mininova, me and the one dude stay up until noon the next day listening to the same hard trance track on repeat, melting marshmallows on a disco light and cracking password hashes we jacked from school computers, making nachos and i got my special section of the tray that was just Hot Chips because i didn't like cheese, everyone else waking up the next day and the one person who has a car runs out for breakfast

       i guess the deal is that these are pretty much 100% positive memories without any scuff attached. but it's something that can't be repeated now or really approximated in any way, i don't think.ten of us aren't going to be able to coordinate time off of work to meet up in the one dude's basement and have a nerf battle with multiple camera angles.

       @ianbetteridge@mastodon.social games on the corporate lan were once a company sponsored activity where i work. that all ended long before i started though... oh to have the 90s back. or maybe not, because then i'd be responsible for wrangling qmail and dealing with the latest virus outbreak on all the win9x machines
