I refuse to use a device which *requires* wireless anything. Wireless security is a joke. Also charging a phone with a cable you can still use the phone for as far as the cable will reach. Try that with wireless charging.

@GNUxeava Honestly I can at least agree that being free of cables would be great. But also cables are very reliable right now and wireless tech is markedly less so.

@GNUxeava Isn't wireless charging like 50% as efficient as wired, assuming it's lined up perfectly?

@GNUxeava "wireless is less of a hassle than cables"If I were more paranoid, I'd think this was all about making as much of our data radio-sniffable as possible.

@GNUxeava i dont get these ppl cuz like, bluetooth headphones are so much more hassle than wired lolthey run out of battery, they're more expensive and harder to repair, u have to go thru a setup process every time u wanna connect it to a new thing, and they dont even work with anything that doesnt have bluetoothcompared to like, just having to untangle the cable sometimes, it seems *less* convenient lol

@GNUxeava @raeaw I like my wireless headphones because I rarely connect them to more than two devices which it handles seamlessly, and I need noise cancelling for sensory sensitivity reasons which requires charging either way. But I also would never claim Bluetooth is superior to wired headphones. The audio quality alone is a reason to stay wired. Latency is another huge one e.g. when making music or playing games

@raeaw @GNUxeava Not to mention, if you want lossless quality you need to do some strange complicated stuff to setup the aptX codec (unless some distribution comes with it out of the box), which your headphones also need to have support for. With analog wired headphones you just plug the connector, in any computer with any operating system (not just Linux), and it just works every time..

@epoch @GNUxeava Not superconducting, but I just found out on here the other day, apparently electric vehicle charger cables are liquid cooled and actively monitored for overheating, I think to achieve some very high current capacity?

@float13 @epoch @GNUxeava Only some are, they have a lot of losses because they are minimizing the copper to make them more flexible. What an interesting engineering exercise.

@Anarkat @GNUxeava My pet theory is (separate from just driving a new wave of accessory sales *ahem Apple USB ports, or lack thereof...)Take 2. My pet theory is that it's to get people to leave their bluetooth on 24/7 to get more data points from those in-store tracking things and the individually targeted digital ad displays in public.I wonder if "smart" aka. Surveillance TV's do anything with the bluetooth yet... there was some sketchy TV commerical thing a while ago trying to get ppl to record the commercial on Shazam, which almost certainly would tell them what show you're watching and when... or in other words trick you into bridging the TV-internet air gap for them
