I'd mentioned this yesterday but wanted to do it as a poll. If you stopped using DuckDuckGo, which search engine and/or metasearch engine would you switch to?

@dragfyre I alternate between Startpage and Searx and have just started using Mojeek because someone recommended it on here (I do the alternating thing with most tech)

sometimes I'll test out various search engines by searching for the obscure stuff I have trouble finding on the mainstream ones

@calculsoberic etools is the only alternative I've tried so far that seems usable. But I'll probably stick w. DDG. It's almost certainly still a lesser evil than Google/Bing. A search engine is necessarily a large-scale capital intensive effort. Sometimes less bad is all you can get. Search w/o a business model is a worthwhile goal. I think if it happens it will probably take the form of search agents that report back eventually, and not offer instantaneous search results.

@n8chz I hadn't thought of that last option, but it is another possibility!

@calculsoberic This far DDG is still my search engine, though it's no longer my main browser on my phone.I did screenshot this to give a look at these though. The Thing for me as a librarian is I use DDG at work too. I Don't know if these are food enough for people's reference questions. So yeah, research will be needed.
