@nenetl @aral For women, blacks, gays, transexuals… it makes a hell of a difference.

@lebout2canap @aral If you mean that civil rights such as roe v. wade are used as emotional leverage and fear mongering, then yes. However, it doesn't mean that voting Democrat will actually benefit any of these groups. #RainbowCapitalism

@NEETzsche @aral @lebout2canap I'm sure they do, but they're also the majority right now. That's why liberals are up in arms about republicans as if they appeared post trump and never had to confront reality.

@nenetl It’s worth understanding that for the last couple decades or so you could engage in incrementalism with rightists and it would work. You could get us to “compromise” our interests in exchange for basically nothing beyond temporary reprieve from more pressure. But then that pressure for more would just come back in a year or so.The left wing in America (including those you castigate as “liberals”), and really the West broadly, is not really used to dealing with rightists who have a spine. It probably does feel out of the blue for most of the left wing to be approached not with some obeisant “appeal to reason” that they may at their discretion reject, but instead confronted with a message that can be boiled down to, “That policy isn’t in our interests so, no. If you don’t like it, we’ll escalate this as far as we have to. Sit down.”It’s a new thing to most of the left.@aral @lebout2canap

@nenetl @aral Personally I'm French, but what I note is that by refusing to choose the least worst because there could be much better, in the end the worst wins. We have the same problem in France, where we had to choose twice between Macron and Le Pen. I continue to think that Le Pen's victory would only have accelerated the decay of the rechtsstaat (rule of law) in our country, with far fewer opportunities to try to reverse the trend.

@NEETzsche @aral @lebout2canap it boils down to whether or not you want to maintain the status quo, which either party will achieve in their own different methods. It's still the same machine.

@nenetl The status quo is hostile to the vast majority of the population in different ways. Things like race/ethnic conflicts are generally the province of the lower class and to a lesser extent the middle class. It’s not really a distraction as it is a matter of where you landed on the Earth.Of course, you being a left wing identitarian, believe that guys with names like Cletus today must pay for the sins of his ancestors from yestercentury in the form of irredentist land grabs, racialized admissions/hiring practices, and public obeisance to hostile, antiwhite rhetoric purveyed by the government, universities, and corporations. They inherit a debt to guys with names like Paco. You likely also believe that if Cletus abolishes those things that he’s effectively genociding you.@aral @lebout2canap
