#Fedora seems to be getting a lot of praise lately. Maybe i should give it a shot and see what all the hype is about? That being said, I'm totally loving #Debian these days. #Linux

@ChrisWere Found fedora hype little bit overrated. U should check Pop OS too, u'll understand my point.

@ChrisWere everyone has a favorite. Good thing you can always spin up a VM to try stuff out!

@ChrisWere I switched to Fedora when 34 came out, from Arch. As a web dev it does what I want well out of the box. It’s getting harder and harder to find a significant reason to use one distro over the other imo, they are all so great these days.

@chrisjimallen Yeah, I completely agree. Usually the deciding factors for me are the levels of maintenance and the software philosophy of the distro.

@ChrisWere Tried it in a VM a while back to try to get its repos into CBL-Mariner to make that more useful for a video (didn't work out), and I was pleasantly surprised how smooth it is in VMware Workstation. Expected it to be slow because it's Gnome Shell in a VM. Maybe part of it is that I gave it decent specs, but I still didn't give it a real GPU.

@ChrisWere It depends. I think your PeerTube review of Fedora/XFCE from a couple of years back was 'just fine' and Fedora remains basically the same. You could give the Cinnamon edition a shot to compare it with your current distro. Or install the Games spin. Or give the flagship one with Gnome a shot, although it still has those minor annoyances you've adressed.

@chrispykreme I've got a spare Mac mini lying about. Was it easy to get Fedora on it?

@ChrisWere well…. I wasn’t ever able to get it to boot from usb until I basically destroyed the partition table on my SSD, then it booted straight into USB. Not sure why, maybe it needs a usb keyboard. I only had wireless ones. I knew I didn’t need OS X anymore so this wasn’t an issue to start fresh

@ChrisWere Debian/PopOS are my rock. I’ve been using SUSE Tumbleweed at work, but it’s hard to know what packages I’m looking for translating from Debian and APT.
