@owl @shahaan Although, in saying this, I don’t mind the idea of sending payments in messenger apps. It could be quite useful. 🌚

@owl @shahaan Yeahhhhh but that’s why… maybe I shouldn’t get into this. I think I have unpopular opinions, being a fan of privacy-based cryptocurrency like #zcash :zec :I’d prefer to own a bunch of private digital cash and send it to friends without anyone knowing. So, less corporations in the mix than there are today. #Bitcoin has a public ledger. Zcash keeps all that info behind #encryption. Not sure what the privacy is like on #Signal and #Telegram crypto coins.

@owl @shahaan It is a Bitcoin fork with encryption tech built in. And I believe they plan to switch to proof of stake, which will make it more energy efficient… but sure. I get the environmental impact. It’s not great rn and kinda makes the currency ‘not ready’ for mass adoption. Conceptually, I like the idea of a decentralised encrypted energy-efficient digital currency.

@owl @shahaan @matt how many cryptocurrencies have been “planning to switch” for years now? And how many will still be “planning to switch” 5 years from now? I don’t see how this claim addresses any concern until they actually back it up with action.

@matt @owl @shahaan If you don't require global consistency, it is actually rather easy to do payments. Spritely and the OCAP world let you build a LETS, which is not a currency, but is perfectly fine for a smallish community.Bonus: it likely drives off the get rich quick stonks people.

@matt @owl @shahaan nice thing about Signal’s MobileCoin is that it’s got similar privacy mechanisms to Monero and is a staked currency like Stellar (so no shitty mining). Seems like the best of both worlds!Zcash is indeed cool bc it’s also auditable, so harder to launder cash, but alas I’ll take it.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MobileCoin
