In other gross news, I have a cousin that teaches high school. This year’s “senior prank” was pouring gasoline down the school halls, smearing feces on the walls, and destroying the cameras. (Not successful, that last part.)No consequences will be had, apparently.

@Hollahollara it really does seem that humankind are degenerating into animals. When I was a senior in HS our prank was to lock bands around the principles car and send her on a treasure hunt for the key. We were very careful not to damage her car.

@Matoriel @Hollahollara Yes, I stopped going to Al-Anon because "Just because he built a bomb and burned down his parents' garage doesn't mean he's a bad boy"! That's when it hit me that white males get away with amazing shit and no consequences. The second gem from Al-Anon was a woman visiting from Quebec telling us how she gave her son money, he spent it on drugs, then sold them outside a school. "Oh, you're a good mother!" I am NOT kidding. That's when I was done with Al-Anon, which is essentially an enablers' enabling group.

@Matoriel @Hollahollara I do not want low-level drug offenders to be in prison (that said, I wish Griner had had the sense not to carry hashish oil in her luggage), but I would sure like to see high-level pharmaceutical executives in prison! Are you aware that the CIA has been heavily involved in drug running since at least the 1960s? They had their own airline and brought in heroin from Southeast Asia, they brought and may still be bringing in cocaine from Latin America. These are the people I want to see imprisoned, and I know it won't happen.

@Hollahollara My dad used to love teaching but retired partly because some of the "students" were jerks and allowed to get away with anything. It was a school for kids with behavioral problems, too.I'm sure the school will now declare all pranks banned. I've always found that sort of thing to be a lazy approach, for the most part. But sad that some little creeps have to ruin things for everyone.

@AbolishPregnancy I think the teachers I know have realistic expectations of student behavior, but no back up from admin or parents to enforce consequences. I am sure it is demoralizing for a professional.

Kids are natural hypocrite detectors, too: they can see what is allowed by neglect, and know they are being shorted when savage children wreck the day…again.

@AbolishPregnancy @Hollahollara It was a great prank for our school because it had 4 identical wings. And the grade 8s come in earlier than everyone else on the first day so there was no one to help them find the rooms 🤣 so obviously it was chaotic but it was a very harmless prank.

@AbolishPregnancy @Hollahollara Cus our vice principals were authoritarian morons.They told us we couldn't do any more pranks or they would cancel our commencement (which I personally wouldn't care about but some people did). We tried one more even more harmless prank and they raged.We just wore pajamas and blankets and pillows and pretended to sleep on the main stairway connecting all 4 wings. Literally COMPLETELY harmless and not even that funny. And they got so mad. So then we stopped.
