I've read good stuff about new software for #librem5, so I've located mine in the drawer and started updating. It's going exactly as I expected it to. PS. the message was not readable in portrait orientattion, of course.

Well, apt dist-upgrade went fine, so no clue where this error is coming from

Okay, an apt update and a reboot later, I was able to update the rest of the apps with PureOS Store. Megapixels got renamed to "Camera (dev)" and it doesn't seem much like an upgrade, a picture of my office is attached. #shotonlibrem5 #librem5

@gdr How did you apt upgrade? It should be better now, an apt full-upgrade (and a reboot to actually run the new kernel) should help.

@linmob apt dist-upgrade and a reboot helped, though it sucks that after so much development time you still can't upgrade using the gui

@linmob in other words, the picture was taken on the new kernel and new camera app. It worked before updating.

@gdr For comparison, this is a picture I took on my #Librem5 last week. #shotonlibrem5

Wow, firefox on pureos is borderline usable now. No more 200% text all over the place. Random wifi disconnects are still present, though, so browsing is not super comfortable. #librem5

@gdr Regarding WiFi disconnects: Maybe a firmware update can help there: https://source.puri.sm/angus.ainslie/firmware-rs9116-nonfree/-/tree/new-readme#reflash-the-rs9116-on-the-l5

#librem5 maps app, on the other hand, is still completely unusable and the UI is mostly off screen.

@linmob thanks, will try. Interesting choice from Purism to not make it a part of auto update mechanism.

@gdr Well, the proper way to do this would like to go through fwupd, and that would require the vendor and... things are complicated, especially if you additionally factor in the FSF RYF certification "fun". Purism's team is quite small after all. I am just glad that they provided the instructions they provide.(That said: Yes, it should be better, but ... these things aren't always as simple as they seem at first glance.)

@linmob so they would have to pass RYF once again, even though it's "Redpine's Open Source Driver"?

@gdr Not necessarily, but given the FSF's stance on firmware, having automated firmware updating by default is likely a no-no. Just speculating though.

@linmob right, but i get it, there are constraints for them.
