@ademan @11112011 @TrevorGoodchild @p one of our users reported an external user trying to talk about or solicit dox from one of our users so one of the admins poked around to find out what was going on and that resulted in two kiwifarms users crying on the timeline because >graf reads dms (i wasnt even around or online at all at the time I got the screenshots sent to the admin/mod by the user) none of these people understand anything at all, ever they just assume it should be facebook or twitter with admins/mods/jannies who are nameless facelsss, they should never be held accountable and only banned

I’m actually not sure what’s “practically” possible because I never use AdminFE, but anybody with database access can read DMs, so you should treat them as non-private, always.

Pleroma does not store user’s passwords anywhere, the only way to steal a password would be to intercept a login request, which I’d rule out. There’s far easier ways for someone with enough access to “log in” as you.

The reason why I rule that out, is because you’d need to catch the user right as they were logging in to do it, and hack in some code to do it, and more importantly there’s far easier methods.This does bring up that good OPsec is to use different passwords everywhere, or at least don’t use the same password with your bank as you do on a random social media site (I have this in my About page).
