The sole act of opening the webapp of Microsoft Teams in my browser has jumped the RAM usage by a whole Gigabyte and a half.I mean, bravo, Mr #RaspberryPi that is my desktop today for enduring the load, but holy shit, how can people even like this piece of shit application that is used most of time to carry TEXT messages.

@kzimmermann my work place all but *banned* Microsoft Teams as an external channel of communication. We don't use it internally, and we do everything we can to avoid using it even with external parties that insist on using it with us.It is a veritable piece of crap.

@kzimmermann I don't think there's people who actualy "like" it. Maybe some see it as lesser evil, but I refuse to imagine what the bigger evil would be in that scenario.

By a simple and dumb comparison: my #irssi client has more chats and groups open than my work ones and consumes 11 MB totes. And believe me, the responsibilities of both are the same - text messaging. *Text* messaging.

@kzimmermann This message has the assumption that someone likes Teams. I have not yet met such a person. :D

@kzimmermann Well, Teams can do more than that, though. File sharing, video calls and the like so the comparison doesn't seem fair. But I also hate Teams with a passion so no heat from me...

@nicd I mean, they send me smileys and even animated reaction gifs, that must mean something eh?"Who wouldn't like a mandatory participation in a corporate social network as part of their daily workflow?" - some Microsoft suit

@kzimmermann cursed e-mail threads you can at least manage with mature e-mail software, rules, scripts and convenient keyboard shortcuts. There's useful history, you're allowed to send two distinct files with the same name through your career and it's not down third of the time.Although IME if a company is making you use MS Teams, they will also force you to use MS outlook, so none of the good parts of e-mail apply.

@theDoctor *if* it was used for these purposes in my organization, then yes, fair point that I would agree. But people just keep pinging me and texting each other with it, in a manner no more different than in a classic IM. Hell, even the Whatsapp Webapp would be easier on resources in this case.

@kzimmermann Well, then it's the wrong tool for your organization's needs, from the sound of it.
