       We invented a way to do a schema migration live in the background so it copies/migrates the data over and then sets a flag so we can use the new codepath when it's complete. I can't remember which big migration we did it for, though, but we wanted to do it for others like migrating attachments into its own table so they're not slow and more managable (automatic cleanup, etc)
