I'm kind of upsessed with building my music collection, I'm currently sitting at 658 Songs at 9.5GB and I'm excited because I feel like at some point this year I'm going to hit 1000 Songs

@metaluneWhat are you using to access and play your music? I've been using Plex and Emby and they've both worked really well.

@metalune I have been collecting full albums since the late 90s. Enjoy the collecting experience. Sort it, with beets or Picard. Enjoy being able to have better storage options: at one point I had about 300 DVDs of mp3 files. Now it is all on one external drive that I only plug in when I rsync new albums. Now I think I have a few TB of albums, slowly replacing favourites with better quality versions.Oh, also enjoy better searching options. Sucked back in the 90s.

@metalune mind is kind of blown by this statement because I started out buying CDs. These days I build playlists so think in terms of songs by which to mark months and years.Your rate of a song plus per day is astonishing. How do you keep quality? Do they follow 80/20 rule for artists vs songs?

@weex I just had a roughly 200 song collection to start out with which I had gathered over a couple months (maybe 3 or so) and then I just started adding more and more songs, I usually have like 2 or 3 days in a week where I spend hours just listening to new music and everytime I hear some song I like I write it down and download it later. I only have songs I love

@metaluneI haven't used all of them but the web, Android and Roku clients have all worked quite well for me. I know there are lots of others.https://emby.media/download.html

@atommac Why do you chose Emby over a fully open source alternative like Jellyfin?

@metaluneFor some reason I thought that they didn't have support for streaming to mobile devices, but I just looked at their web page and it appears that I was completely wrong about that. 😅 Maybe I'll spend some time playing with that this weekend.

@atommac haha, I see! The main reason why Jellyfin immediately appeals to me because there is a dedicated Music Streaming app on the iOS App Store which would be exactly what I'm looking for if it behaves like I think it does, I'll keep everybody on Mastadon here updated on how my journey with self-hosting Jellyfin will go!
