@RevXenoFact"My body, my choice" is a terrible talking point to use, because bodily autonomy is completely mythical; nobody in America has bodily autonomy. You are not allowed to put certain substances in your body. You are not allowed to display your body unclothed in public. You are not allowed to rent your body out for sexual pleasure. You are not allowed to kill your body.If women have bodily autonomy, then that's a right that nobody else has.Better talking points are needed.

@RevXenoFact Maybe the abortion debate should be taking a back seat to a debate about bodily autonomy in general; we could do away with all kinds of oppression that affect everyone, not just women.I mean, fuck's sake, we know Prohibition doesn't work, now don't we? That's why alcohol became legal again. How does it make sense that other drugs are still against the law?

@RevWhatsblem laws affecting bodily autonomy get passed piecemeal - usually. They often target specific populations, behavior, and stereotypes. That obviously affects pushback. But you raise a point on some useful possibilities of opposing a slew of crap laws.

@RevXenoFact I'm interested to know, if you do, what bodily autonomy we actually have that is protected by law. It's not an argumentative challenge, I just can't think of any examples myself.

@RevWhatsblem In the United States, there is more or less a legal "right to sleep."https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/poverty/474763-supreme-court-upholds-homeless-right-to-sleep-in-public/@RevXenoFact

@RevXenoFactIt has just occurred to me that we do get treated like we own our own bodies, when our bodies are in need of medical attention.Pretty shitty that the law treats our flesh like a State asset when it suits them, but pretends otherwise when someone has to pay doctors.

@onan @RevXenoFactThat's a matter of use of public spaces, not of bodily autonomy.
