@georgia LCD: Too timid to use electricity, can be powered off a battery.CRT: Guzzles power and doesn't give a shit. Put too many on one power strip and they'll trip your breakers.

@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz I wish you could still find CRT monitors in dumpsters. They are sold for ridiculous prices as retro tech now.

@georgia I still regret letting my parents make me get rid of my CRT, which was really goodat the time I was a child and did not understand the significance

@georgia never got where this meme that crrs run every resolution perfectly comes from. Is it just bcause they're inherently so blurry you don't even notice th blur added by scaling?

@snacks @georgia It's my understanding that the pixels are physically less discrete; if I play a 1000x1000 bitmap video on a 1280x1024 monitor, I have to choose between interpolation that will make discerning each pixel difficult, or letterboxing that will cause the video to be smaller than the screen. I believe that CRTs can display a 1000x1000 video fullscreen while leaving each pixel from the source material distinguishable.

@liam @georgia every pixel in most crts is 3 discrete phosphors from my understanding, idk how that's supposed to work

@georgia CRT televisions are still a dime a dozen at thrift stores and yard sales (or from mugging Melee tournament organizers); the real problem is getting CRT monitors, which can effectively display higher resolutions that 480i. If you're wanting to play DVDs, then even a PS3 does a brilliant job at projecting them onto 1080p LCDs.(for pedantry's sake: I am aware of high-resolution CRT televisions but consider them practically irrelevant due to their absurd rarity and extreme cost)
