When people vote #Macron to block #LePen, when people vote #Biden to block #Trump, they no longer choose a leader based on the candidates' own merit, but on the demerit of others instead. It is a race to the bottom, yet despite increasing amounts of political discourse, we have not seen any good leaders emerge. In fact, it appears that many now claim the loud ones as leaders, like technocrats (looking at #Musk) and celebrities. Surely people can't talk, but actually lead us out of our misery...

@sapoverde Elaborate? Have you seen current leaders acting decisively for the public good and not for personal interest?

@austin Leaders always act for both public good and personal interest. This doesn't necessarily make them "good". They're of various levels of being functional. Voting gives the people some power to influence the politics, but politicians will cheat, as they always do. However, one who cheats is still better than one who doesn't care about the rules at all. And this is my opinion on voting and democracy.

@sapoverde 1. My emphasis was on "decisively," as in, the current ones have been wishy-washy on acting for the public good. 2. Yes, one who is aware of the democracy is still better than one who is ignorant, but as I said, that is a race to the bottom...

@austin Democracy has nothing to do with freedom. Democracy is a soft variant of communism, and rarely in the history of ideas has it been taken for anything else.Hans-Hermann Hoppe

@Bright Your point? Also, if we look through a more general scope, the leaders (political, business, or otherwise) of the current period that people are looking up to do not match up to the good qualities of the ones in the past (although it could also be said that we have not had a situation that requires a lot of leadership). Nor are there many people that want to lead, even.

But we do have #young #leaders unionizing workplaces now:https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/28/business/college-workers-starbucks-amazon-unions.htmlWhile it is regrettable that college-educated kids' specialized knowledge is wasted as everything still revolves around making a living instead of following their own desire, a #college education has provided good #leadership qualities and open minds. I certainly hope that this gives way to good future leaders instead of the current #political hellscape.cc. @stux #politics #uspol #union #unionize
