I know I'm not owed anything, but it's frustrating when:I discover a new comic.I follow this comic for 7 years.Writer gets dream job, artist gets dream job, comic takes "a little break".Comic officially goes on hiatus, but we're promised it will continue.2 years pass, no communication from creators, I terminate my Patreon support.2 more years pass, still no communication from creators.RSS feed gets weird and I get 4-year-old posts, reminding me it's dead. This happens so often.

But, you know, Kukuburi went on hiatus for 8 years and then suddenly came back. So I never drop these comics from my RSS reader... I just keep polling the silent feed for year, after year, after year.(Sadly, Kukuburi went silent again in Feb 2020.)

@CarlCravens Ah, yes, "hiatus", the dread term... To this day one of my top ten favourite comics/graphic novels/manga (and I read a LOT, think Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, or works like Girls Last Tour) is A Miracle of Science. Their next project, Afterlife Blues has been on hiatus since 2011. I am still checking and waiting...

@lpwaterhouse It makes sense, especially in webcomics that rely on advertising, book sales, Patreon, that creators eventually move on. They burn out, they get better jobs, they get that book deal that turns the comic into a children's graphic novel I'm not interested in. It's their life, I'm glad to have been a part of the comic for awhile. But I do wish they'd find a way to wrap up stories before they walk away. Forever cliffhangers can make the whole thing disappointing.

@CarlCravens @lpwaterhouse Something something indictment of capitalism something.(I.e. in a perfect world, they'd be paid a living wage to do this and be able to bring it to a graceful end when they're creatively done.)

@suetanvil @lpwaterhouse Maybe. This presumes that the abandoned project is what they really want to be working on, instead of that Disney show they were a staff writer for, or writing for that Netflix show that's adapting one of their graphic novels, or writing more award-winning graphic novels instead of drawing for a niche story someone else is writing.Sometimes the paying work is what they really want to be working on.

@CarlCravens I'd settle for the honesty of *admitting* the project is dead, TBH, otherwise it feels like ghosting, which is an asshole move...

@lpwaterhouse That's my thing... years of the last post being "we'll be back soon". If they gave regular updates, told me what they _are_ working on, seemed to remember that this project was even a thing... that would at least be something. _Especially_ on the Patreon page where people are still paying in hopes of encouraging a return.Or admit it's just not going to happen and let me move on.
