That's what they do. Though, I must say it feels so very last century. Why aren't they catching charged particles directly to create current? Would take less elements in the system.

@Saratoga @coolboymew But weren't they already radioactive for the preceding millions of years?

@Saratoga @coolboymew It's more concentrated I think. In the ground it's mixed with huge amounts of non-radioactive and less radio active materials. Iirc it should still go down the same chain of decay.

@Saratoga @special-boy @coolboymew The amount of waste is minimal compared to what is used. Most bars can be "recharged" although is somewhat expensive. The disposal of radioactive waste is done far and away from cities or settlements. Tbh the pros of nuclear energy outmatch the cons. Usually the only dangers are product of human negligence, lack of security standards, and bad mantainance of the plants.

@Saratoga @special-boy @coolboymew Honestly what happens is that it gets stored at a guarded surface warehouse indefinitely. The underground idea runs into problems like "what if an underground river flows through here in the far future?" It's better to just keep the waste under supervision (and there's a lot less of it than there is landfill).

@coolboymew The fossil fuel industry HATES them!Local physicists found a way to make FREE ELECTRICITY with nuclear material and this ONE WEIRD TRICK!
