My one concern with Mastodon and the fedi-verse is having to log into separate instances. If I can find a way to show specific instances or log into them with just one login, that would be optimum. Otherwise I can see communities separating apart way more than they need to.

@siliconshecky the best I’ve found is some mobile clients that offer easy switching between accounts. Beyond that, it’s either accepting that you’re on one instance and interacting with people on other instances from there, or logging into a bunch of different instances with different accounts

@siliconshecky the idea of a single federated ID comes up as a discussion topic here now and then, but I’ve never seen any serious discussion about making it happen. Would be pretty cool if it did happen, though.

@jerry gotcha. Heck I would love to just be able to make individual lists/columns based on the instance name, just so I can cut out federated instances I have no interest in.

@siliconshecky @jerry The iOS app “Toot!” allows you to scroll through local timelines of other instances and interact with the toots on them as well.
