Is there a service that helps new fedi users find the right instance for them? fedi.ninja seemed cool at first but it’s mastodon only and really doesn’t ask the right questions.Like, what’s the service where an alt-right guy, an anime weeb, a normie, a turbo leftie, and a linux nut can all go to, and all walk away with instance recommendations that fit their interests/politics?

Shit, I just realized I wrote fedi.ninja when I meant to write instances.social. Fedi.ninja just lists instance data, instances.social actually gives you a quiz. But it’s not a very good quiz.

@dave fediverse.party gives you lists of various federated instances. I literally just clicked on ones that sounded interesting and channel surfed into cool stuff. That's actually how I found the famous "Swampman Comic"

@dave As far as I know, you can't just tag your own Pleroma or Mastodon instance with your target audience.You kind of can with PeerTube, though limited to pre-defined categories.So recommending on categories requires manual review of each instance, and good luck doing so when there already are so many and counting.

It's a bit like moving to a new town and trying to figure out which pub or cafe to make your 'local'. Sure, you can pop in for a beverage at any place that's open, but it's good to be a regular at place where everyone knows your name (and doesn't hate you and everyone like you on sight).
