France had the chance to have Le Pen president and Macron's congress => 5 years of oligarchs running around with their hair on fire and nothing getting done.Instead they're gonna get Macron president and Le Pen's congress => Destructive legislation to reduce the country to a desert so that Le Pen gets 99% vote in 2027.Nice Job.

@cjd tbh, during the war in Ukraine the ally of Putin in the office of the president of France would not be the greatest result

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe French politics is not as cynical as American, but it's risky to expect anyone to play nice.

@naruciakk I wouldn't say "ally", anyone in politics who is not an absolute idiot is playing for themselves. But I would 100% expect her to play EU and Russia off against each other.

@cjd >In 2014, the National Front took Russian loans worth €11m (£9.4m). One of the loans, for €9m, came from a small bank, First Czech Russian Bank, with links to the Kremlin.I mean, ally sounds better than sugar daddy

@hacknorris @cjd actually, international French engagement will be safe with Macron president, even with a far right congress and PM.And some of the more radical institutionel changes will be blocked by Macron, so some damage will be contained.Regardless, a far right congress is very unlikely to happen, given the way our General Elections are almost rigged against extrem.

@cjd @hacknorris the 577 deputés are elected (almost) exactly the same way our president is, there are two turns.Candidates who receives the majority of the ballot cast and also 25% of the registered voters are elected on the first turn.Candidates who received more then 12.5% of the registered voter get to pass to the second turn, and second turn is as usual. If only one candidate passes this thershold, the next better candidate is also selected to ensure a minimum of 2 candidates.

@cjd @hacknorris so yo win congress you need to win enough one unipersonal election, this really looks like the UK system. The congess is not reallyu representative (it really is'nt) but the extrem have a really hard time to get deputés.

@cjd First it's a false dichotomy, Le Pen won't have either chamber of parliament either way.Second, she promised that, if elected, she will organize a referendum to change the constitution to make legislative elections proportional, which *will* give her an absolute majority in the national assembly: https://nitter.eu/GaranceAmarante/status/1513765245478739968/
