There has long been the idea of the ‘digital native’, generally applied to Millennial types, roughly meaning ‘someone more accustomed to “digital” technology, having grown up as/since they became widespread’It's like to propose a new concept: ‘digital immersed’Those who have grown up in, and engaged with from a young age, a social media/smart-phone societyFor the UK I approximate this to be children since about '05

The key point being the difference in experience between gradually _adopting_ this brave new world, and growing up with TV presenters telling you to at them on Twitter whilst parents look at pictures of their friends kids.Note I'm not necessarily saying the ‘digital immersed’ experience is worse/bad/etc — Simply that it is substantially different to develop in a hyper-connected society, vs observing it form.

There is also the distinction that the ‘digital immersed’ likely have had parental figures engaged in some social media potentially right back to their formative yearsWhereas the classic ‘digital native’ was first exposed to that world when they themselves decided to opt-in, often in a move closer to defiance/rebellion against parents, the ‘digital immersed’ may feel compelled to do so by society now that ‘being on-line’ has somewhat become the norm

I guess we can abuse the boiling frog:- ‘digital immigrants’ were thrown in hot water- ‘digital natives’ were brought to boil from tepid- ‘digital immersed’ have never known anything but hot water
