The thing about Smart TVs that confuse me is that people buy TVs to be displays for a device. Be it a Roku, or a game consoleAnd those things already do all the same stuff the smart tv does

@ocean smart TVs are for people like my parents who buy a TV "for netflix".

@ocean If you don't have a streaming device like a Roku, it cuts out that middleman.

@ocean Me yes, if it were an option I'd buy a dumb TV that won't show me ads at the same price as a smart TV if it were an option. It's not an option unfortunately, if I don't want the smart TV functions (and the ads) I'd have to pay more for commercial monitors. But I admit I am probably a minority.

@Rakou Yeah I guess? It just seems weird, who is subbed to Netflix or Hulu or whatever, but doesn't have a streaming device or game console to watch it onIt's such a tiny market and yet every TV now has this stuff tacked on, jacking up the prices

@guizzy I'm the same way, I just never connected my TV to the internet, no use since my Xbox does all the same stuff it does but better

@ocean I mean that market is me lol. I've had various streaming services that I only used on my PC because I didn't have a TV for awhile. So when I bought one, the fact that it was a smart TV kept me from needing to buy whatever streaming thing I would've needed.I have bought consoles, but I don't think they have every streaming thing, do they? Like they have Netflix and Hulu, but do they have other stuff like HBO Max, Funimation/Crunchyroll, Disney+, etc.? Not to mention not having to boot up the console to watch stuff is also convenient. I can just start the app when I turn on my TV. A small thing, but it removes a step.

@ocean @Rakou I mean I really don't think it's a tiny market, not everyone has a game console and why would you buy a streaming device when your TV can do it already

@ocean That's good, I remember a long time ago it could be a toss up. I think I got my current TV back in like 2018, and I vaguely remember looking at console stuff and people asking when certain streaming services would be available on PS4/Xbox. Although granted it's been 4 years so my memory might be missing details.
