Make some type of automated conversion app, where all you have to do is sign in with TW/FB/IG creds and it sets up your account for you.

Make it easy for users on Mastodon to prove that they’re the same owner of social media accounts on other platforms. Otherwise I think spoof accounts could be too easy / common / annoying.

Make it extremely simple and unscary to pick which Mastodon server to join. Some days I still wonder if I’m on “the right instance” and that’s not particularly helpful thinking for an expert. For new users it could spook them before they join.

Make a buddy system, where each new user in Mastodon gets a random buddy who is willing to answer question, boost toots, and show them the ropes.

Let people on Mastodon follow people posting on Twitter. I don’t think I want to see boosts/retweet coming through onto timelines, but it’d be nice if I could be signed into one fewer app/website to keep in touch with friends.

@patrickmcurry I think this is very important. I think being able to sign into both your mastodon and twitter accounts on one app would be a good idea.Like if all current mastodon apps had that feature built in, and allowed you to interact with both accounts. Maybe even see both feeds on the timeline, with the ability to separate them.There are some apps on f droid that do this now, but dont have the best UI.

I guess that could go for any social platform, but most of the accounts I’m personally invested in still following are on Twitter. But making it work for one would make it easier to work for many.

Make a referral system, where it’s super easy for each user on an instance to invite their friends over to it, and have that invite tied into the overall onboarding / welcome experience for those new users. Maybe I get bragging rights for everyone I invite to the system?

Just like how I find picking a server stressful, it’s also stressful picking a mobile app to use. Kudos to @Gargron for making the new official mobile apps, as at least they’re a better-lit front door for mobile.

I’d also love it if Mastodon could become my favorited messaging app, but it feels like one of the weirder features in Mastodon right now, and not quite an analog to how chat / DMs work in Twitter and other social media sites. Maybe I should spend more time playing with it though.

Frankly the fact that I have to have email and six other messaging apps / websites open at all times to do my job and stay in touch with pals is ludicrous. When do I get a single client app for Slack/Discord/Twitter/Facebook/LinkedIn/SMS all in one? Not to mention WhatsApp and Signal for a couple friends!?

Back to Mastodon, I’m not sure how else to spark growth and community. I’ve never made a social website or community app beyond lil failed experiments. And I was a hold-out on joining corpo social media until a friend (accurately) told me that I had to join to help launch my new business at the time.

@geotechland I would pay a small amount of money every month for an app that let me do this — especially with a unified feed and unified DMs interface!
