I feel the same… #Mastodon moving content standards down to each instance/community was as important an innovation as any part of its innovations in distributed social networking….

@verita84 then just join an instance with moderation policies you like - or create your own.

@tchambers@indieweb.social That's part if the solution. All the Mastodon instances decide to eeat e walled gardens and block everyone. Kinda defeats the point of federation

@verita84 then Just pick one that doesn’t for your home instance. The point of Federation is not “no content policies”- its varied and distributed contact management. Pick one you like.

@tchambers@indieweb.social It would be better if admins let the user decide what is offensive or considered hate speech. Instances have mute/block features for a reason. We are missing out on a lot of good instances and posts because of how sensitive Mastodon users became last year

@verita84 I’d say “let the user decide which instance to choose” is better than let user each user take on the time-sink and burden of content moderation on. Plus that option functionality forces each instance to federate things that community/instance doesn’t want to against their will. Freedom of association lives comfortably with freedom of speech in the first option. Freedom of speech obliterates freedom of association in the second option.

Then create or join an instance whose policy will be to let the user decide what is offensive or considered hate speech. A lot of people are happy with leaving that dirty job to admins

@liwott@nerdica.net Yeah. We can't let people debate ideas, question their beliefs, or debate ideas. That would be cray cray.

Wait, did you do that (ie you are on a instance were users choose) or are you on an instance where the admins choose? Can't be both :/

@liwott@nerdica.net I am on my own instance. A free speech instance. Basically no CP and everything else is ok.

@liwott@nerdica.net The mastodon mods completely block any opposing view point and instances they federate with
