@furgar while I hate those people, the idea that you can be persuaded does not imply free will

@furgar not really. Computer programs don't have free will, but one program can influence the behavior of another. If you've ever seen self organizing robotics, different robots will "persuade" the other ones without free will being a factor. The way I see it, everything is predetermined, but on such an infinitely entropic level that it would be impossible to parse out the action/reactions in a way that you could make accurate predictions, so we might as well behave like free will actually exists.

@furgar I was a militant atheist in my teen years, but nowadays, I believe that a societal belief in a common theology is required for civilization to remain in tact, and the Christian God is the best one we have. The closest religious thing that I know of to my belief about the universe would be something like tao. I don't really see it through such a mystical lense, but something like that.I don't have anything against people for experiencing their beliefs as an enlightening spiritual event and, in fact, I envy them on some level. When things click for me, it feels cool, but I don't feel some spiritual connection to the universe in the same way that most other people seem to be able to. For example when it finally clicked for me what time actually is.Sorry, that was a little rambly.
