@Makabelli101 @HebrideanHecate @DejaVu @Eleutheromaniac I stand by the right of every teenager to make stupid mistakes and behave like a complete arse occasionally. It's their birthright to help them become functioning adults. We're there to help them resolve it gracefully and learn important lessons from it. This daft young man could have learned that if you want to espouse an ideology, you need a clear understanding of it to argue your case. Instead he's undertaken a performative gesture that has done his cause no good at all and brought him into some disrepute, even if he did get an expensive dress from the corporations to appease the woke gods. On the other hand, with chutzpah like his he could still go on to have a successful political career! I really worry about this generation of entitled narcissists. Rebels with too many causes, sloganeers with no understanding, toddlers in search of a tantrum. Perhaps I was cruel to mine because I made them take responsibility for their actions. That way they never did anything quite this silly because they learned the hard way and the safe way. They've grown into adults that I respect, admire and like as well as being my children whom I love dearly.

Hear Hear. I often find myself second-guessing whether the way that we brought them up has been the right path, you know, respecting others, critically evaluating things etc. when the world around us that they're entering seems to increasingly be populated by narcissisistic imps. How will they negotiate a world which values infantile individualism? Then I cop onto myself, because not only do I love them, I like them too.
