@xenon there's little reason to run old Minecraft in Windows XP, you can just load it in modern MultiMC on whatever you normally useMinecraft has always required a special launcher to work, and the period-correct launcher long since no longer works, and MultiMC doesn't support Windows XP anymore

@xenon versions this old are also intended to be run as Java applets, so you can't even just craft a specific invocation; the launcher has a special applet wrapper it uses to launch the game

@xenon the Betacraft launcher is specifically meant to run ancient versions, and is written in Java, so it may run on XP https://github.com/Moresteck/BetaCraft-Launcher-Java/releases

@unascribed i was hoping it wouldn't be like that, but i'm not surprisedi was planning on recording a video that appeared to take place in 2010, and the idea was to run period correct minecraft while avoiding any anachronisms in the process(i technically could've used windows 7 or vista and still done that, but we personally were still using xp at that point)yeah i'll take a look at those launcher and see if i can still do something with this, thanks 🤍 -- demon dog 🤍

@unascribed i'm not very familiar with how exactly a java program running on windows xp handles ssl, but i am getting a dh keypair errortrying to do this on xp in 2022 might be a lot more trouble than we were thinking it would be at firstwe'll figure something out, but this one's probably not happening on xp unfortunately-- cherry opossum ❤️
