I'm not sure how much I like the idea of public libraries pushing online services ("OverDrive") with absolute fucktons of telemetry, and who are almost certainly reselling that data. The DRM is kinda sorta understandable here, but libraries were once a bastion of privacy. They literally invented warrant canaries.

@r000t here's the part about overdrive that I find mind bogglingly stupid. They rent digital copies to the library at similar cost to physical books. So if a book cost $5 and averaged 6 months before patrons destroyed it, they would have to pay overdrive the same $5 every 6 months. It's like... Anti technology

@ketmorco .....rent?I skimmed through their FAQ for libraries and it implied that they own licenses (licenses for books, what a fucking racket) and I didn't see fuckall aboutrenting. digital books. everything is awful.

@ketmorco I was *hoping* it was just like a subscription service on crack; Library pays some fee per 100/1000 accounts, an entire catalogue opens up. That would have been neat.

@ketmorcoSo what's the incentive for the library? It's free to the end user so there's no point in any value-adds.
