After years of lobbying and a victorious Christmas dinner🔥, I get to host our annual family Easter brunch. So I need to upgrade my backyard ASAP. 🌱Wondering if I should replace the tiles with grass?

@Gina Replacing tiles with grass is good for the environment (and it looks nice!). I would say: doen!

@Gina small areas of grass are a pain to cut. also shady corners will be tough to keep growing. in time you end up with a patch of weeds instead of grass.

@Gina More green is more green! I would replace 'em. Real grass won't grow that fast, I think, but yo may try the pre-grown stuff. Turf or whatever the "Rollrasen" is called in English.

@Gina better do flower patches if you dont need the walking space and put smaller walkways in in between with the stones you have -bees will come en masse -you can plant an all year blossoming paramacultur space so -such is not much work to maintain -the plants support each other and do it themselves once installed https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d8/19/7b/d8197b8888675452d85fdda67fc545ce--permaculture-garden-permaculture-design.jpg

@Gina Literally any green growing thing would be better. It has really shocked me, since I moved here ... as green and nature-oriented as Dutch people tend to be, why do so many Dutch gardens look like parking lots?

@nattiegoogie it's terrible, but super low maintenance. In my case the tiles were already there.

@Gina I'm sorry; that was a very American comment. And I get the low-maintenance thing. I think it must have been a trendy idea years ago, everyone did it, and now, everyone is like you ... "they were there already" (my garden looks even more parking-lot like).I did see an article that, something like 15% of Dutch people tore out the blocks and replaced with greenery last year. New trend, I guess.

@Gina Grass would probably be nice as long as there's not so much traffic that your Easter brunch destroys what you've just planted. Also, make sure you don't plant the grass where the evil Ring mirror can see it or it'll get sucked into the nether realms. :blobcatwinktongue:

@Gina Hard to say. I'm far from a lawn expert. I don't have any grass in my yard either. Since Easter is so close, I'm assuming you're going to go with a turf option. It won't have near the time to grow naturally. Turf usually requires some "settling in" time but as long as it's mostly under furniture and people aren't actively walking on it the whole time, it'll probably be OK? It'll need some care afterwards though.

@Tay0 Well, I'm lazy so I pay someone else to do it. I don't have grass, but they keep the trees and bushes nicely trimmed and make sure weeds don't take things over.@Gina

@mike @Gina when we had our garden done, we had it turfed and were told not to use it for at least a couple weeks to allow the roots to take.

@GinaWith such a small (compared the the rest of the area) spot for grass, I'd advise against it. It's a lot of work to get growing (the tall buildings can work against you) and weeded, and you'd be right on the lawnmower-edger line. For what it's worth, I think it looks pretty nice. Except for the mirror, that's a little unnerving.
