our oldest sheep is a bit beyond her life expectancy. She has been struggling to stand up in the morning, but once she does she seems fine. She isn't showing signs of pain, but we put her on meds just in case. It just seems that her legs are getting very weak. Yesterday, my wife had to help her up, which isn't easy since she weighs 300 lbs. Normally she tries to stand as soon as my wife enters the barn, but today she didn't even lift her head. so my wife sat on the floor and fed her by hand. 1/2

Seems like her last days are upon us. My wife is very sad. She gets so attached to her animals.

@Phil Awwww. Sweet ol girl! Unfortunate and very tough part of having animals for sure! Sorry for your wife's pain. Hope this ewe has offspring that can help to soften the blow when she goes to Rainbow Bridge. πŸ˜’πŸ™πŸ»

@KarePatriot no we never bread her, they generally live longer if you don't. However, I have little doubt that some orphan lambs, requiring bottle feeding will be arriving soon enough.

We managed to get the old ewe up this morning. I think I have permanently damaged myself. My wife stayed home today and watched her. When it looked like she was going to go down again, my wife enticed her to the driveway with fritos. She layed down in the grass beside the driveway. my wife sat with her and she died about an hour ago. I owe my wife one cuz she saved me having to get her from the pasture to the driveway through the mud. in 2019 I had a carcass hauled away it was 200 now 400.

@meldecken Its harder on my wife than me. I don't get particularly attached to livestock. She lived a long happy life and died a peaceful death. I think that when you know it's coming and it's natural, it is less hard when they die suddenly and prematurely.

@Phil Phil you have a point there. Having taken care of this beloved animal for it's entire life ... you have done what you can and after all death is a part of life.. take care Mel
