A RANT: Dang, I can’t find the post on here about the racism/colonialism of the Prince William comment on “The War”. Sorry! The more I think about your comment, (thank you, whoever you are, you nailed it before it became big!) the more I see how right you aren re the deep-seated arrogance if not outright racism in the crazy hand-wringing in the “West” about this war, not to mention the huge and endless media coverage (and you all know the war I mean without me having to name it. Which in itself is Exhibit 1 for the prosecution). Oh, this war is special, different, scary, OMFG etc. etc. Why? Because it is about “us”. It is in EUROPE! OMFG. Europe!!! Wars that rage on other continents, among non-European peoples…shrug: It’s not just that we don’t care — which we don’t — (think, currently, Yemen, still Syria…etc. etc. etc. etc.), it’s that I believe we somehow, at some level, consider it their due because they aren’t…you know…EUROPEANS! THIS war is exceptional/different/etc. What lies behind that? Arrogance. Endless colonialism. Racism. Oh and the ‘analysis pieces’ about how this war is the end of…I dunno…’civilisation’ or whatever. Ditto above. As an aside, and to point to another level of utter disgust, who can tolerate all these American corps and entities and names endlessly virtue signalling their compassion for Ukrainians, their horror of war. When I logged on to MailerLite to send out a newsletter for a group I’m part of, there was a pop-up that said something like “No War. Help Ukraine” (not the exact words). In an absolute rage, I wrote to them expressing my feelings, along the lines of “You disgust me. Where were you when your government was invading Iraq? Where were you when your government was invading Afghanistan? Were you anti-war then? No, you were not! And where are you now as your government helps sustain the war against the people of Yemen? You disgust me.” Naturally, I heard nothing back. We, in the West, are arrogant fucking hypocrites. FWIW, and I think it’s worth almost nothing because it cost me nothing and was no threat to me, I protested a lot against the Afghanistan/Iraq invasions. (Nah, you didn’t see much media coverage of that, right!) Because my country is one of the U.S. puppet states that goes along with every piece of shit the U.S. does on the world stage. And my country, its media, its commentariat is going full throttle with the Empire again this time. I hate war. I don’t want any war to happen anywhere. This is not about that. Sorry to say, if there’s shit coming to any of “us” from this, we more than deserve it. Way more than any Ukrainian civilian does.

@Ausenseiter I've been reading a lot about the war, and it's quite interesting. A commenter on Unz pointed out that Russia did the same play in Ukraine they did against Germany in 1943-44, a feint, and then focusing on what really matters to them, the Black Sea coast and the Ukrainian southeast.Check out the Donbass Insider and see what's really happening in Mariupol. The Ukrainians sent in three helicopters to rescue Azov commanders (and possibly French spies, I refuse to use the word intelligence), two got shot down and one turned back. And the people of Mariupol are now talking about what they've been through in the past eight years, including young women snatched off the street by Azov. A young woman's body was found in the basement of a school occupied by Azov with a swastika painted in blood on her abdomen.

@susansiens If only some of what Azov has been up to would seep out into MSM. Yeah, right. The timing was a bit spooky, but a few weeks before the Russian SMO began, I had just finished reading “Stalingrad” by Vasily Grossman. (I read “Life and Fate,” which is actually the second of the two books about the WWII siege of Stalingrad, first…just because that’s the order in which they were published.) Amazing books!

@Ausenseiter Yes, I've just been reading about Bucha, the supposed Russian massacre. The only problem is that after the Russians left the area, there were no bodies in the streets as shown on video, day after day. Sensible people are pretty much figuring that the Ukrainians killed their own people, which they seem very fond of doing, in order to accuse the Russians.I think I saw Azov on television; they had armbands covering up their swastikas. "Make nice for American media!"You are a strong woman! reading books about Stalingrad. Andre Vltchek wrote about his grandmother fighting the Germans in Stalingrad; he's now dead, undoubtedly murdered because he spoke the truth. His piece about the slums in Nairobi was brutal -- he visited all the places he wrote about -- children's life expectancies being about 15 or 16 due to drugs and prostitution.

@susansiens You’re the strong one, reading about Bucha. My partner is mainlining war stuff almost 24-7 (the alt side, not MSM, obviously) but I’ve tuned out for now. He was telling me about Bucha being a ‘false flag’. He’s an ex-American, who woke up later in life to the truth about his homeland. I ask for one update a day, the highlights, or lowlights, as the case may be, about the war-war and the economic war. Sure sounds like the West has successfully sancitioned itself. An economic circular firing squad.

@Ausenseiter @susansiens I have a coworker who is very, very anti Russian. OMG. I kind of forgot myself today and pointed out some of the US's crimes. Did not go over well...

@GrumpyOldNurse @susansiens Yeah, that can be hard going. I got into it with an old boss of mine from when I worked in the U.S. over email about his visceral hatred of China vs U.S. goodness. Didn’t end well.
